2020 Calendar Fundraiser for Mamquam Edible Schoolyard! **order deadline extended**

UPDATE: because of the vandalism we experienced at the Greenhouse on December 11th, we are extending the order date to accommodate your generous support!

What are we fundraising for?

Getting youth in the garden!  Our educational program at Mamquam Edible Schoolyard (MESY) is all about fostering a connection to nature and an understanding of where food comes from.  Oh, and having fun while doing it!

Your $20 donation gets you a calendar featuring art made in the garden by students at Mamquam Elementary, and includes garden tips, fun facts, and our favorite garden recipes!

How to order your calendar?

Through our DONATE BUTTON **please make sure to write a note when making your donation that includes your name, email, and number of calendars ordered**

or EMAIL mamquamedibleschoolyard@gmail.com with your name, phone number, donation amount and the number of calendars you would like. Payment by e-transfer to the same email address.

Want more than one calendar? Each $20 donation gets you a calendar, so $40=2 calendars, $100 = 5 (they make great christmas presents! Everyone needs a calendar, right?) Alternatively, if you only want one calendar but would like to donate more, just let us know with your order.

Calendars will be available for pickup in Squamish time and location tbd.  We will let you know the pick-up details by email.

Not in Squamish? No problem! Your calendar can be mailed to you please include an additional $5 donation to cover shipping.  Make sure to include a mailing address in your order!

Yes, you can donate less! Every dollar counts, and we appreciate every contribution no matter the amount. However we can only give calendars for those donations that are $20 +. Just write a note with your donation that it is for Mamquam Edible Schoolyard 🙂

Donations cover calendar printing expenses, and all additional proceeds go directly to teaching kids in the garden.

So, what is MESY?

The primary purpose of Mamquam Edible Schoolyard (MESY) is to cultivate an accessible and sustainable local food system through hands on learning, while fostering social and environmental awareness in our children. It is through education, support, and empowerment that our community will develop, promote and implement sustainable strategies to mitigate climate change.

Mamquam Edible Schoolyard, located at Mamquam Elementary School, is comprised of 30 raised garden beds and a 20x40ft greenhouse, one end of which is dedicated as year-round outdoor classroom space. Each class at Mamquam Elementary cares for a garden bed throughout the growing season, and a local daycare also participates. The garden is in its 5th year and is planted with annual and perennial vegetable crops, pollinator-friendly flowers, herbs, and indigenous plant species.

Mamquam Edible Schoolyard is a community learning resource that showcases innovative growing and sustainability practices that everyone in the Sea-to-Sky can be inspired by and learn from.

“Without continuous hands-on experience, it is impossible for children to acquire a deep intuitive understanding of the natural world that is the foundation of sustainable development.” -Natural Learning, Creating Environments for Rediscovering Nature’s Way of Teaching, Robin C. Moore and Herb H. Wong
